Director of an Independent Fostering Service South London

We are an agency who is very passionate about the quality of training it offers to foster carers. Without a doubt, the trainer’s style of training and skills demonstrates a very high standard and knowledge of the subject. She not only engages the foster carers in an interactive session, but she also provides them with practical advise and useful materials which they are able to take away and use in their day to day caring of children in placements. The carers certainly expressed satisfaction with the information they received from the trainer’s training session.

Charlie, Social Worker

"A thorough piece of training."

Domestic Violence, Risk and Impact on the Child Training - Comments from Slough Children Services Social Workers:

  • Having free discussions and opportunity for individuals to expand their thoughts around the information shared was really helpful.

  • It was good to hear other people’s experiences.

  • The trainer was very engaging and kept an eye on the room.

  • Virtually this worked very well, and the time went by very quickly.

  • I will take away just what an impact domestic violence has on children and young people.

  • I will go into homes with the mindset of ‘who’s doing the parenting’.

  • I am going to remind myself of Every Child Matters.

Reflections after a Training, Support and Development Standards for Foster Care Programme Development Workshop
Mangers, Supervisors and Social Workers from a local authority Fostering service.

  • I like the fact that we should be starting from the assessment (Form F) phase and induction handover.

  • I think it’s more of an opportunity for how we deliver the training…lots of new ideas. We can now go back and think about how we intend to deliver this programme.

  • Every Child Matter exercise was brilliant.

  • We need to deliver in a different way.

  • Like the signing-off index sheet supporting a more standardised approach.

  • The workshop idea is good (rather than use each workshop for a standard. Use the first workshop to plan and then work with what each carer brings to each workshop).   Giving them a plan in the beginning and then working at their pace (within the timeframe).

  • I need further training on train the trainer.

  • Just reminding me about ECM matters, refreshing…STAR model makes it more interesting.

Liz Murray-Bligh

Integrative Child Psychotherapist (M.A., MBACP)

"I attended a day’s training, ‘Barnado’s Domestic Violence Risk Assessment’, which was run by the trainer. From the moment she introduced herself I was aware that this was going to be a memorable and, dare I say, enjoyable day. The trainer’s in-depth knowledge and passion around the subject matter, combined with her charismatic and infectious personality, enabled me, (and I believe the group as a whole), to maintain a high level of focus throughout what could have potentially been a fairly demanding day. She interspersed a more formal approach to teaching with a number of fun, exploratory, and constructive exercises during which the group interacted and worked together. As an integrative psychotherapist, I am always interested to meet and share knowledge with people from other disciplines, and this aspect of training provided me with plenty of opportunities to do so. It also helped the group to gel, ensuring that everyone contributed fully to what was an insightful and valuable day’s learning."

Khushbir Green

Service Manager Independent Asian Fostering Bureau

"At IAFB we are looking to set up a contact centre. We found the course to be helpful, and informative and gave us the tools to undertake the task at hand. We will certainly be taking further training in the future to develop our skills. What I found really helpful was the level of knowledge backed by theory and practice that the trainer was able to deliver in one day. All in all an excellent day’s training."
