When she Strikes
At first glance, the notion of female use of violence might seem contradictory, largely because of
ingrained societal norms and gender expectations. Women are traditionally viewed as nurturers
and caregivers, and their aggressive behaviours are frequently minimised, misunderstood, or
outright dismissed. However, research such as the National Intimate Partner and Sexual
Violence Survey indicates that intimate partner violence is not always perpetrated by men;
women can also be perpetrators. Just like any societal issue, Domestic Abuse is multifaceted,
and its understanding requires a dive beneath the surface of these generalisations.
